To help you get the answers you need regarding the Alma Dance school and dancing in general, we have compiled an FAQ that hopefully answers all your questions and alleviates any concerns. But if for some reason it doesn't then please don't hesitate to get in touch with us here.
class preparation
To dance shoe or not to dance shoe? While we won't unleash the dance shoe police on you, slipping on a pair can be the fanciest foot decision you make. We just want you to be comfortable and not too sticky or slippery. Lots of our students wear dance shoes, while others opt for sneakers or other comfortable choices.
Dress like you're auditioning for Dancing with the Stars – minus the sequin overload (unless you're into that, of course). Jokes aside, casual or active wear, or anything comfortable for you to wear.
We don't require you to bring a partner to join our classes. Everyone dances with everyone in our classes. We will make it work for you. However, in some cases, when we have equal numbers in our partnerwork classes, bringing a partner would be helpful to ensure a balanced gender ratio.
We won't make you do a Salsa battle to test your skills, but we do expect you to have at least 1-2 years of dance experience before joining Alma. We aim for a high-performing environment, so we require our students to be comfortable with dancing on2 or to complete our on2 conversion course before entering the timetable classes.
memberships
Our star player is the 12-month full-access membership – it's the Alma VIP pass that comes with massive savings. Remember, great dancing takes time, commitment, and hard work. On the flip side, it leads to a world of incredible dances, uplifted spirits, and awe-inspiring moments!
We understand that life's adventures can take you away from the dance floor. When you have a holiday booked and your payment rhythm needs a break, we've got you covered! We can put your membership on a temporary hold while you're off making memories. Your dance journey will continue with some fancy footwork when you return!
Piece of cake! Drop our admin team an email or a message, and let them know when you'll be jetting off to paradise. They'll work their magic and put your membership on a temporary snooze. It's like giving your membership a little vacation of its own!
Swing by and have a chat with one of our staff members. We'll adjust your membership to align with your dance journey and your goals moving forward.
You can’t! You're stuck with us forever! Jks To part ways, just send a simple email or text message to our admin team. Let them know the dates you're planning to step out before the term begins, and they'll take care of the rest.
The main question is your ability to commit to the class schedule. We don't want you to burn out, but if you have the capacity, the rewards will be plentiful.
CLASS ENVIRONMENT
Yes, we limit each class to a maximum of 30 individuals or 15 couples. If classes are full, we'll place you on a waiting list and notify you if an opening becomes available.
Well, let's put it this way: they might give you the "butterflies-in-the-stomach" effect, but fear not, we're not in the business of scaring away dancers! Our classes might have a touch of intimidation, but it's all part of the dance adventure. Nervous excitement can fuel progress, and we provide a friendly and encouraging vibe to ensure you're comfortable as you conquer dance floor challenges.
We celebrate individual dance journeys! No need to rush your progress. We're not here with a list of "dance speed records" to break. What matters most is your dedication and effort. We prioritize helping you find your rhythm and groove at your own pace.
Just give us as much notice as possible, especially for partner work classes. This helps balance the numbers and ensures a smooth experience for all participants.
ON2 QUESTIONS
All our classes at Alma are on2 classes. If you're not familiar with dancing on2, don't worry! We offer an on2 conversion course designed to help you become proficient. Once you complete the course, you're welcome to join any of our classes.
The age-old question of On1 vs. On2! We're biased toward On2, finding it smoother and more exciting. Many higher-level dancers learn On2 and never go back. The transition takes time but exposes you to growth.
For the majority, yes. While there are technical differences, when people mention mambo, they're usually referring to dancing Salsa with the On2 rhythm.
